Functional Skills Criteria

The Functional Skills qualifications criteria from Ofqual sets out the skills standards, coverage and range for the qualifications at each Level for English, information and communication technology and maths. 

These criteria need to be considered alongside the subject specific criteria for Functional Skills.

Functional Skills qualifications in English assess three components:

Speaking, listening and communication
Reading
Writing

Functional Skills qualifications in information and communication technology (ICT) assess three interrelated skills areas:

Using ICT systems
Finding and selecting information
Developing, presenting and communicating information

Functional Skills qualifications in mathematics assess three interrelated process skills:

Representing - selecting the mathematics and information to model a situation
Analysing - processing and using mathematics
Interpreting - interpreting and communicating the results of the analysis
