This level 4 qualification is designed to progress the skills of Automotive Technicians, already competent at level 3, by developing their ability to determine solutions to a variety of unpredictable problems. It aligns with the majority of manufacturer Master Technician training and assessment programmes. This is achieved by employing a range of specialised skills including:
• evaluating information from various internal and external sources
• developing investigative strategies
• supporting and coaching others to determine solutions.
It is a learning programme which involves students studying both the theory and practical aspects of the following:
• Advanced light vehicle technology
• Advanced diagnostic techniques
• Communication and liaison techniques
• Providing personal and technical support to vehicle technicians
The student’s knowledge is assessed by IMI Awards set practical assessments in a motor vehicle workshop environment, IMI Awards set ‘on-line’ multiple-choice testing, and by assessments set by the student’s centre.
