This Vocational Competence Qualification (VCQ) is a work-based automotive qualification that assesses the competence and knowledge that technicians require to perform their job role effectively on vehicles in all types of garages, dealerships and maintenance depots.
This qualification has a choice of two job routes, either auto electrical technician or auto electrical aftermarket enhancement technician.
This VCQ is an integral part of IMI SSC Auto Electrical and Mobile Electrical Installation Advanced Apprenticeship Framework. Therefore learners (normally aged 16-25) who are keen to build a career in the industry can take this VCQ as part of the Apprenticeship framework.
This VCQ is for:
- school and college learners on work placements/apprenticeships who wish to join the automotive industry
- and employees of the industry who are seeking to enhance and/or demonstrate their experience and competence in their work role. (Experienced staff enter onto a VCQ programme at the level suited to their role and competence.)
Learners are required to demonstrate all of the evidence requirements, learning outcomes, assessment criteria through workplace evidence. Full guidance documents and assessment records are supplied by IMI Awards.
Additional assessment of the knowledge component within this VCQ is made up of 2 components:
a. Online Testing
b. Written Assignment (Coursework)
