Version 3: February 2009
This qualification has been amended to better suit the demands of the EU F-gas regulations.
Many motor vehicle technicians have limited experience of qualifications demonstrating their competence in air-conditioning components and systems. This qualification provides motor vehicle technicians the opportunity to devolp new Mobile Air Conditioning (MAC) skills and enhance existing ones.
Most importantly this qualification provides Mobile Air Conditioning (MAC) technicians (working with cars and car derived vans) with a qualification (approved by DEFRA), which fulfils the scope of Commission Regulation EC842/2006 and Annex to Commission Regulation EC307/2008 for F-gas (fluorinated greenhouse gas).
This qualification becomes essential after the 4th July 2010, as from this date, these EU Regulations require all MAC technicians to have achieved a refrigerant handling qualification (approved by DEFRA) meeting the F-gas Regulations.
This is assessed by 3 on demand online tests and 3 practical assessments. It contains 3 mandatory units:
AC1 Refrigerant Handling (EC842-2006)
AC2 Mobile Air Conditioning Principles
AC3 Advanced Diagnostics for Mobile Air Conditioning and Climate Control Systems
