This is a level 2 qualification which covers technical needs for basic repair and preparation procedures. It provides essential knowledge and skills for vehicle body paint operators working on a wide range of vehicles in all types of garages, dealerships and specialist body paint businesses.
The learning programme involves learners studying both the theory and practical aspects, including the following:
• Preparing Metal and Pre-Painted Surfaces
• Preparing and Applying Fillers and Foundation Materials to Vehicles
• Repairing Minor Paint Defects
Learners also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage.
This qualification also forms the knowledge component (technical certificate) of the IMI SSC Accident Repair Apprenticeship framework (for Paint). When an apprentice has achieved a Level 2 Apprenticeship, they can then choose to broaden their education and training in other ways from this firm base.
The assessment of this VRQ is made up of 2 components:
a. IMI Awards set Practical Tasks
b. IMI Awards set Online Testing
