This level 1 qualification covers the basic technical needs of today’s motorsport industry. It provides essential knowledge for the specialist group of competition maintenance and repair technicians.
It is a learning programme which involves students studying both the theory and practical aspects of the following;
• Motorsport Vehicle Construction and Routine Maintenance
• Operating Principles of Motorsport Vehicle Engines, Tyres, Brakes, Steering and Suspension Systems
• Operating Principles and Maintenance of Motorsport Vehicle Transmission Systems and Electrical and Electronic Systems
Students also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working on competition vehicles.
The student’s knowledge is assessed by IMI Awards set practical assessments in a motor vehicle workshop environment, IMI Awards set ‘on-line’ multiple-choice testing and by assessments set by the student’s centre.
