The primary purpose of this qualification is to provide an automotive pathway of specialist learning for the Foundation Diploma in Engineering. It has been approved by the Engineering Diploma Development Partnership and the Sector Skills Council, Automotive Skills.
The Award can also be used as standalone qualification. It offers learners the opportunity to broaden their horizons and explore automotive as career a pathway. It is ideal for both learners who enjoy a practical environment and those who are interested in pursuing a technical career within the sector.

Learners also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage.
The learner’s knowledge is assessed by IMI Awards practical assessments, ‘end of unit’ assessments and the Unit 2 project, Understanding the Automotive Retail and Road Transport Sector, set by IMI Awards.
