Train to Gain funding can now be utilised for ATA Service Maintenance Technician if this is delivered alongside an IMI Awards Level 2 VRQ/Technical Certificate in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (Light Vehicle).
What is Train to Gain?
Train to Gain is a Government scheme designed to ensure employees have the right skills to do the best job. It gives the opportunity for employers to access Government financial support to give employees their first full level 2 qualification.
For more information on this initiative and the steps required to secure funding, you can visit the web site below:
http://www.traintogain.gov.uk/
What does this mean for your centre?
If an employee does not have a full Level 2 qualification, through the Government’s brokerage system, funding will be available to help them gain one. This includes all training towards NVQ Level 2 or equivalent (equal to 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above).
Benefits for your centre and employers
• Your centre can offer more funded training and strengthen links with local employers
• Employers will have their business training needs identified
• Training will have been given and an individual’s performance will have improved, benefiting the business
• Individuals will achieve a dual outcome – the VRQ/Technical Certificate and ATA accreditation
• Up to £1,230.00 of funding per candidate is available, if they do not hold a Level 1 or 2 qualification*
How does it work?
The Level 2 VRQ/Technical Certificate in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (Light Vehicle) - qualification number 100/5568/X is regarded as a full Level 2 qualification.
This means that if individuals are eligible, i.e. they do not hold their first Level 2 qualification, Train to Gain funding will be available to achieve this.
An innovative method to enable individuals to achieve the Level 2 qualification, by building in ATA Service Maintenance Technician, has been devised by IMI Awards.
ATA assessments form the backbone of this approach and should be used as a training needs analysis to identify the skills that individuals need. This will ensure that you can pinpoint the right training and agree a tailored training package.
To complete the requirements of the qualification, individuals will take the six ATA practical assessments. These provide a significant amount of evidence for achievement of the qualification on successful completion.
In addition, during any training, each individual will carry out five written phase tests, six on-line tests and six additional practical assessments, conducted in the training centre or workplace.
Centre prerequisites
Centres wishing to provide this must be approved by IMI Awards to deliver the IMI Awards Level 2 VRQ/Technical Certificate and an ATA Service Maintenance Technician.
If your centre is not ATA approved, funding could be split with a local ATA Approved Assessment Centre to achieve the required outcome if necessary.
Candidates must be 19 or over to meet Train to Gain rules and have no formal Level 2 qualification.
Application for Train to Gain funding
Training providers must approach local LSCs with a plan of training and assessments using the IMI Awards Level 2 VRQ/Technical Certificate and ATA Service Maintenance Technician assessments.
