For qualifications appearing on the 2018 performance tables, the following guidance has been announced by the Department for Education.
To ensure that external assessment provides sufficient challenge, qualification specifications or associated assessment guidance must state that repeat submissions are not allowed. Students failing to reach the required standard or deemed to have underperformed, must be given the option of one retake opportunity. The retake must be a new task or assignment different to the original assessment.
Therefore in accordance with the above guidance, learners who have not reached the required standard or are deemed to have underperformed have only one retake opportunity for each online test. This retake may only be taken a minimum of 48 hours after the first attempt. If the re-sit is unsuccessful, the learner will be unable to achieve the qualification within that academic year. What this means is a learner will only get two attempts at each online assessment. Should they be unsuccessful they would need to continue in the next academic year.
If a learner is referred on their first submission of the ‘detailed written report’ they will have one opportunity to re-submit a new detailed written report and this must relate to a different practical task. If the resubmitted detailed written report does not meet the minimum of a ‘pass’ grade the learner will be unable to achieve the qualification within that academic year.
